THE MAKEUP SHOW NY 2011: DAY 2: MAKEUP & FASHION

Hey Blossoms,

I kept it very classic with a simple light smokey eye and a red lip...red lips against any neon clothing looks exceptionally brighter and more vibrant! I believe I accomplished and mastered "standing out in a crowd".

I was sad to see The Makeup Show draw to a close after 2 days of nonstop products, knowledge and learning I still felt like I didn't have enough. Same time next year for sure!

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Do you wear red lips? neon clothing?

THE MAKEUP SHOW NY 2011: DAY 1: MAKEUP & FASHION

Hey Blossoms,

The Makeup Show is a pro-only event and sometimes amongst a see of people who do the same thing you do you can become hidden. I decided I would have lots of pops of color all over so that I wouldn't be to hard to find. It seems my signature style is the flower accessory in my hair. I decided to stick with that trend and wear a bright one. I chose an emerald green and believe it or not I created my outfit and makeup look around it!

I had soooo much fun mixing prints! Im sure I'll experiment with that more!

Here's what I came up with!

EXPRESS Black pinstripe blazer
FLORAL Zippered front corset
URBAN OUTFITTERS High Wasted Skinny Jean Regular Wash
STEVE MADDEN Crystal clear ballet flats
VINTAGE thrifted burgundy leather purse
MANDEE Emerald green hair flower accessory
MANDEE "old gold" and pastel pink charm choker necklace
GUCCI Watch
BAKERS "old gold" flower accessory with rhinestone center
RANDOM "old gold" with black engraving detail
RANDOM neon green flower earrings with white center

MAC Cork e/s (matte taupe e/s used as transition color)

Here's the FINAL LOOK

So was I bright enough...lol? Do any of you have any signature pieces that make you stand out?

Stay tuned for more blog posts on The Makeup Show. I will break the posts down into DAY 1 and DAY 2 and then into "MAKEUP & FASHION", "WHAT I PURCHASED and "INSIDER'S VIEW".

OUTFIT OF THE DAY: BLAZING FIT & FLORAL

Hey Blossoms,

I never was much of a fashionista growing up. My style consisted mostly of my shirt matching my shoes and I usually wore blue jeans, dark blue jeans with invisible stitching preferred. As I got older my "style" or lack thereof worsened (in retrospect I never had it to begin with). I used to be a size 0 with abs to die for and so most of my clothing was geared toward showing off those same abs(I am now a PROUD size 9 with a flat stomach sadly my abs are gone forever). LOL. Oh man, the tragedy of a young girl confused. My midriffs and short skirts were far from "attractive", form fitting -YES attractive- DEFINITELY NOT!

Don't even bother asking "Well where were your parents?" We all know as teenagers when we wanted to do something we found a way to do it, with or without permission. I was NOT a "BAD" kid at all. Passed all my classes in H.S, honor roll and honorable mention, even graduated high school early but I wasn't sensible when it came to fashion. I was trying to find myself during those times so my "style" transitioned with current trends, peer pressure, my thoughts, beliefs, morals and priorities. "Being fashionable" is something I still struggle with. Some days are better than others but its FUN now. Challenging myself to go outside of my colorless box. My favorite color (which actually is considered a contrast) is BLACK! (Trust me when I became a MUA I was happy that I already wore the universal colors: ALL BLACK!). My best friend would have to PRY the BLACK dresses, shirts, and shoes out of my hand. To me there was a difference to her it was COLORLESS.

Now years later I understand that the PERSON makes the clothes the clothes DO NOT make the person. With that knowledge regardless of what color I am wearing I'm me and I'm happy! However something great has been happening over the past year. I have gained some understanding of fashion. Enough to revamp my entire "style" and wardrobe and actually be able to find something to wear on an impromptu night out as opposed to running crazily around local shopping areas and mall the DAY OF a night out, date, or special event. Goodness the stories my best friend and I can tell. Now we complain of not knowing what OUTIFT to go with. To think there was time when we had NO options! LOL

I had to give you all a little background before I showered you with the goods. I have stated this before this blog is MY DIARY. It's a manifestation of my journey as a freelance makeup artist, natural hair woman, soon to be esthetician and now a fashion conscious extrovert! So along with my FOTDs(Face of the Days) I will be posting OOTDs(Outfit of the Days).

I recently went out to visit family in another borough. It may have well been another state since it took almost 2 hours to REACH! Thats NYC Public Transit for you! However, I looked on the bright side I felt and looked cute all the way there!

I will post more on what I learned about fashion ESPECIALLY THE MYTHS and the importance of STAPLE PIECES! in a later posts. without further delay (or chatting as you can tell I like to TALK a LOT!) here is my OOTD: BLAZING FIT & FLORAL!

GUESS BLAZer
MANIFESTO FLORAL print blouse (I've had it over a 1yr and never wore it before today)
AMBIANCE body-con FITted skirt
FOREVER21 black leggings
ALDO peep toe wedges
RED suede belt with "old gold" stud detailing
RANDOM "old gold" bangle with black engraved detailing
RANDOM "old gold" large teardrop hooped earrings

Sadly I couldn't find my hair accessory when I took these photos but I wore a black lace bow tie hair accessory...(did you notice the BOLD & UNDERLINED words that inspired my title!)

So there it IS! Another thing I learned is that your clothes don't always have to MATCH, as long as the colors are in the same color family (did you notice the varying shade of red between my blouse & my belt) and GUESS WHAT there are NO RULES! IF you do not want to match at all and don't want to wear clothes in the same color family and you prefer CONTRASTING colors then do it! That's actually a trend known as COLOR BLOCKING! Again fashion is what YOU make it so have FUN with it, make the clothes don't let it make you and don't break the bank following trends!

So what's your favorite fashion trend? How would you describe your style? Please comment I'd love to know!

IMATS NY 2011: DAY 2: MY MAKEUP & OUTFIT!

Hey Blossoms,

So after the excitement of IMATS DAY 1 I was eager to keep it going. I wanted a fun but more casual less outrageous outfit than the day before. Now I'm no fashionista but lately I believe my mind has started processing colors and prints differently than it used to. I was very pleased with the final outcome.

Here's MY MAKEUP & OUTFIT

WHAT I'M WEARING

Mexx White Blazer
H & M Leopard Print off the shoulder t-shirt
Urban Outfitters high- waisted jeans( I have a thing for high waist items)
Lucky Brand Platform Sandals
A PEDICURE with fire engine red Essie Nail Polish (actually I'm not sure of the name of the color lol I'm super ticklish and dread pedicures so I had to include it!)
H & M animal tooth & coin long "old gold" chain
Bakers huge "old gold" flower ring with rhinestone center
Random long dangling cream & "old gold" link earrings
Random faux red leather clutch

...and I decided to keep my cream colored Forever 21 cloth flower hair accessory as a "signature" being that I was the only one in the entire venue with on DAY 1.

My hair is pulled into a high afro puff. I love my afro puff!..the 2 strand twist out from DAY 1 didn't last unfortunately. I'm sure as I gain length my hair styles will last longer. With all the shrinkage it's rare I'm able to wear any twist out/knot out more than a day. But I'm not complaining!

As for my makeup, I first did a simple brown smokey eye and then covered my entire lid and inner tear duct with gold glitter. My cheeks and lips were kept neutral.

A lovely lady at Royal & Langnickel booth made mention that I have "all the best earrings". I beg to differ but thanks lady! I believe I received just as many compliments on this makeup (both inside and outside) IMATS that I may just do a Youtube makeup tutorial on it....with a twist!

IMATS is officially done! So are my blog posts on it! It's a WRAP PEOPLE! New makeup...different clothes..same time next year ya'll

Until Next time,

IMATS NY 2011: DAY 1: MY MAKEUP & OUTFIT!

Hey Blossoms,

I love color so I knew I definitely would wear lots of it at IMATS NYC. I planned to make a statement and be SEEN & HEARD . I always liked anything "out there" but used to be to afraid and shy to wear it. Well all inhibitions were lost and I went with what I wanted! The results was amazing. My makeup, outfit and accessories garnered so many compliments!!! Not what I was expecting at all, but it was definitely nice to get. I am a firm believer in going with your heart and what makes you feel good. Even if I didn't receive any compliments I would have still felt great!

So let's get right to it. Here's the makeup look (after 13hrs!!) inspired by my outfit....the theme " BRIGHT FLORAL" !

CRAZY COLORS I KNOW!!!!!

The ladies over at the Royal & Langnickel Brushes booth went crazy over my earrings. Thanks ladies for all the compliments. And a HUGE thank you to all those who complimented me on my outfit and makeup!!! I sincerely appreciated it!!!
