Hey Blossoms,
So by now I hope you've read my blog post "How To Make Money As A Freelance MUA" in that post I discuss and break down 10 steps you can take to make money.
In this post I'm kicking it up a notch, delving into my secret "how I make money" box and sharing ultra specific ways to not only make money but make $1000 a month. If your a full time makeup artist you have the potential to make much more. If your a part time makeup artist like myself this would be an awesome supplement to your salary from your full time career.
I will break down what to do in a series of blog posts so bookmark this post, click on "Follow This Blog" because there is more to come and YOU DO NOT want to miss out!
Craig is a cool dude. I've never met him but I've met his best friend: EARNING POTENTIAL!
If you have never heard of Craigslist.org please become very familiar with this website. Besides being a cesspool of raunchy and downright sinful personal ads this place DOES have much to offer.
Once you steer clear of the personal section and tear yourself away from the barter and the free sections (trust me they can be addictive. The gems you can find!) make your way over to the GIGS section.
The gigs section is amazing. You can literally find ads offering any and every type of job you can think of. From corporate offices to a college kid looking to pay someone to write their paper(I've considered but that's CHEATING!) . It's all there and for the taking!
You can make your search very specific including a state and city and even a neighborhood! Then you can add search words to really narrow the choices down and increase the likely hood you'll see an ad for a gig your interested in.
This will give you all the jobs with those key words in the title AND the text of the ad. The more specific you are in your search words the narrower your choices will be so it's imperative you search using all these keywords (NOT AT THE SAME TIME!). Be sure to search through all these variations since Craig (he's still a cool dude!) has it where it will not automatically know your still referring to makeup and may not pull those ads right up!
Its TRUE. Money only cares about commas and I'm helping you to get at least one comma a month ($1,000). Don't worry about titles (or slight spelling errors) remember Craigslist is definitely for the person on the go! Very few ads are lengthy and very professional. Most get straight to the point especially about a makeup gig. And just like the ad that's how you want your money: STRAIGHT TO THE POINT (or bank).
Many of the gigs are last minute (thus the spelling errors) posted in the wee hours of the morning by a person frantic because their MUA cancelled and they MUST find a replacement by sunrise!!! Thus, calling for a MUA to contact a number or to email with rates and portfolio link or a simple email stating "hey, my name is (your name here) and I'll take the job. contact me ASAP at ### ### ####" from you is sufficient enough.
Again creativity is lacking on Craigslist so to be sure you don't miss the gig or opportunity of your dreams read through EACH and EVERY ad available that pops up.
Money has no expiration date but being broke does!
Don't be afraid to go back through old ads and contact the poster and ask if the job is still available the worse they can write back and say is "no!" (actually the worse is they NEVER write back leaving you in limbo wondering.. LOL...ok I'm joking..kind of)
Some of my best photo shoots, most amazing clients and lasting connections were from people I've met from gigs I got from Craig (There he goes being awesome again!) be sure to keep in mind that many ads are created by third parties and the idea, concept of the shoot and other details may be lost upon the person putting up the ad (I know it's foolish but it happens) so decide if your interested when you actually TALK with the person behind the actual gig or at least a competent assistant.
It confirms every single point I've made above. If you want to make the money you'll learn how to navigate these ads and respond accordingly!
FUN FACTS:
Now enough talking! Go out there and start making money!!
What's your experience with Craig and his list?..Lol.. Let me know!
Until Next Time,
Later Blossoms

CRAIGSLIST:
Craig is a cool dude. I've never met him but I've met his best friend: EARNING POTENTIAL!
If you have never heard of Craigslist.org please become very familiar with this website. Besides being a cesspool of raunchy and downright sinful personal ads this place DOES have much to offer.

The gigs section is amazing. You can literally find ads offering any and every type of job you can think of. From corporate offices to a college kid looking to pay someone to write their paper(I've considered but that's CHEATING!) . It's all there and for the taking!
Where the fun comes in!
You can make your search very specific including a state and city and even a neighborhood! Then you can add search words to really narrow the choices down and increase the likely hood you'll see an ad for a gig your interested in.
Type in: Makeup, MUA & Makeup Artist
This will give you all the jobs with those key words in the title AND the text of the ad. The more specific you are in your search words the narrower your choices will be so it's imperative you search using all these keywords (NOT AT THE SAME TIME!). Money doesn't worry about grammar , People do!
Be warned!
Don't judge a book by it's cover or in this case it's generic title
Again creativity is lacking on Craigslist so to be sure you don't miss the gig or opportunity of your dreams read through EACH and EVERY ad available that pops up.
Money has no expiration date but being broke does!
Don't be afraid to go back through old ads and contact the poster and ask if the job is still available the worse they can write back and say is "no!" (actually the worse is they NEVER write back leaving you in limbo wondering.. LOL...ok I'm joking..kind of)
Be open minded or the only thing that will be opened are continuous "Final Notice" bills!
HERE'S AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT I MEAN (This IS an ACTUAL AD!!)
After clicking on the state and city I wanted. I went to the gigs section and typed in: makeup artist. A long list of ads came up. This ad was posted in the evening and is an older ad on the list. The ad reads (I have removed specific names and websites):
In need of a model and MUA for a resort and swimwear line shoot (The location of the gig is placed here)
Jane Doe (#######. com) will be shooting line sheets on the evening of June 7 in a studio in ####### and is in need of a model and a makeup artist that can also do light hair styling. The budget is not large, but it does pay. Please respond to this post with your portfolio for consideration and to discuss $ amount. Additionally, to view the photographers work please visit #######. com.
It confirms every single point I've made above. If you want to make the money you'll learn how to navigate these ads and respond accordingly!
If you think with an open mind perhaps you noticed that this gig could ALSO be an opportunity to get a TEAR SHEET!! The poster is shooting FOR A RESORT and a SWIMWEAR LINE, both could yield brochures, ads and other published work!! Or did you notice that perhaps there is an opportunity to network for FUTURE GIGS with the RESORT or the DESIGNER for the SWIMWEAR! THINK SMART!
FUN FACTS:
- My first job in Corporate America I found on Craigslist.
- My current residence I found on craigslist.
- I once got someone an entire living room set FREE(you guessed it!) ON CRAIGSLIST!!!
- Do you get my point???
Now enough talking! Go out there and start making money!!
Don't worry there is more to this series and collectively you'll be well on your way to making $1,000 a month as a Freelance MUA.
What's your experience with Craig and his list?..Lol.. Let me know!
Until Next Time,

This information is so helpful. I have looked on Craigslist for jobs but because Craig is known to have a lot scams, I just decided against using it. However,I might just give it another try.
