Hey Blossoms,
I know many of you are familiar with MAC. Some of you even use their products exclusively siteing MAC as your HOLY GRAIL of all thing cosmetics. While I agree many of their products rock there is ONE product in particular I've had a recent run in with that DOES NOT ROCK not one iota!!!
This product is their MAC Pro Longwear SPF 10 Foundation in NW45. Pictured here is color NC20.
I just could not make this color(NW45 not the color shown above) work for me. Granted I only wore it all of 12 hours it just did NOT work for me as far as color matching. The undertone was way to red and I looked like a matte tomato topped with orange sauce(after the foundation oxidized). Now it IS LONG LASTING...I was slightly shiny after 12 hours of wear and only blotted 3 times during. The matte finish remained the entire way through but I felt the matte look was way to unnatural. It would have been best to wear it along my t-zone, wearing it all over the face just made me look as if I were wearing a mask.
As a woman of color I already have a difficult time finding foundations that match my sin tone. Like many woman of color, I am lighter at the center of my face and darker along the perimeter so sometimes (ok ALWAYS) it's necessary for me to mix at least 2 different foundation colors.
I steer clear of all of MACs other foundations due to reviews of the oily, greasy mess it leaves you with. I've tried them numerous times and I always end up regretting I ever did. Now please don't misunderstand me! MAC is a GREAT company and they offer some fabulous products. I'm STILL a proud Pro Card carrying member and I love their eyeshadows, paint pots, fluidlines and fix + spray!!! That's just to name a few. Unfortunately, their foundations NEVER work for me.
I make it a habit to try everything on myself first and depending on my experience will determine if it makes the grade and graduates to my kit. Its really hard to dislike a product, have a bad experience with it (continuously) and STILL decide to add it to your kit. It almost NEVER happens! MAC Pro Long wear foundation was no exception! I do LOVE MAC Pro longwear concealers! A review on those will be coming up soon.
Check out the video above for a more in depth review and to see this foundation on my skin!!!

Girl this is why I dont stan for MAC! There foundations are so off its not even funny and they stay giving every WOC NW 45. That is the concealor they gave me and it was too light for me and it broke me out. They really need to work on their foundations and concealor line.
They definitely need to go back to the drawing board with many if their foundation formulations I don't mind concealer that's a tad bit lighter in the under eyes area but the undertone has to match through and through. Their pro long wear is not for me. I may try their face and body it seems to have a better color range.
I have to mix MAC's foundations for the most part, because of how they've oversimplified their shade range.
Sadly, the consistency of the shades across foundations is not static. While some people maintain they are always the same shade, there are noticeable shifts between formulas and textures.
I had much better luck with the concealer too. Checking out the video next!
@Tamara I've noticed the shift too! What's up with that?? The concealer is definitely a sigh of relief. It's funny because I have been told by numerous people that they love to sheer out the pro long wear concealer and use it as a tinted moisturizer over the other MAC foundations! Wow..so maybe they are on to something with the formulation of the concealers...
you cant clearly say yellow tone for yellow tones and pink is for pink undertones. There are MANY exceptions. People dont pick it out that way. There are even people who get into arguments at makeup counters because they are a cool and someone insisted they were a warm.
Alot of times darker toned women like African American/carribean women have to mix more than one foundation ,everyone on earth is different
After years of being a makeup artist. The rule stands true. There are no rules to makeup, only rules of thumb. Nothing called "too anything".I disagree with telling anyone how to wear their foundation/blush/powder/eyeliner/eyeshadow. Makeup is subjective. Everyone has their own makeup style. Many light people tend to go light/lighter or mix it with a luminzer to make themselves brighter/radiant/porcelin like. A great example of this would be dita von teese, who even stays out the sun to maintain her light skintone and wears light foundation. Others prefer to be dark/darker and darken in the sun or use bronzer all over their skintone. Different people have different preferences. If I spelled "Horse" "Howrse" than there is no "ifs" "and" or "buts" because grammar isnt subjective. What is wrong is wrong! However. Makeup is subjective. I hate nude lips. Does that mean its right to say "dont wear nude lips" ? No.
I might not like it but someone else might. There is no rule to makeup. Thats the beauty of being a makeup artist. There are soo many different styles.
I hate bronzer. But maybe there is someone who loves that deep bronzed look. I cant go to them and say "dont go soo deep in the bronzer" and say its "constructive". There are soo many different styles.who is anyone to tell someone theyre wearing a too light or too dark foundation, because there is no such thing. Nicole and Sam from pixiwoo(huge makeupartists in Britain) sometimes wear paler or darker foundation and it looks gorgeous! as long as people blend it to the neck its fine....some people prefer to look bright and radiant.
