BLOSSOMING FACE OF THE DAY: Natural/Bridal Makeup

One of the most popular and most requested makeup look is one that looks as if one is not wearing any makeup at all! Au natural! This is a makeup look that lightly enhances one's look. An "unmade" up look that is STILL flawless!

So many woman are reluctant to wear makeup for fear that their look will be so drastically changed that they won't look like themselves. That's not the case! Fear not ladies! The "natural" look or "I look like I'm not wearing makeup when I really am" look is by far one of the most difficult to create and uses the MOST products! The foundation, eye shadow, lip liner, lipstick, blush and gloss must accentuate the face naturally and give the look that the person wearing it "awoke that way". Think: all those beauty commercials and the woman is just getting out of bed. Did you really think she WASN'T wearing makeup the thing is you just COULDN'T tell!!!

This look is SUPER popular among brides making it the most sought after makeup look in the bridal industry. The "classic beauty" look where the bride looks EXACTLY as herself but brighter with a wonderful "new bride" glow! Very few brides venture out and add color into their bridal makeup look. Leaving the color for the bridal shower/bachlorette party the night or days before the wedding! And trust me the day of your wedding isn't the best day to start experimenting with colors. That's why booking and showing up to your bridal consultation with your Makeup Artist is imperative so on your BIG DAY your makeup is one LESS thing you must worry about!

Any makeup if picked, applied and blended properly can give an au natural appearance but one of the most popular would be AIRBRUSH makeup! This is makeup that is aerosolized through an airbrush compressor/airbrush gun and applied to the face and or body and literally looks just like your skin! Let's not forget the fact that this makeup is nontransferable (think of all the people you'll hug and kiss on your big day. Especially your husband no messing up that Tux!) this makeup is waterproof, sweatproof and won't fade throughout the night(awesome for all the tears that will shed and dancing you'll do!)

Having color in your makeup look is great even for everyday wear but it's also just as satisfying to go with a natural look for any occasion or even for no reason at all.

Keep in mind that a natural look is suppose to look as if you have NO makeup on and is literally undetectable!  Sometimes you can go for the natural look with just a HINT or POP of color. That's the look I went with(I can't help it I LOVEEE color!)

In this look I went with a natural look that could definitely double as a bridal makeup look!

BLOSSOMING INTERVIEW: Up Close & Personal With Your Favorite Gurus: MAKEUPBYRENREN

Hey Blossoms,

I have something so EXCITING for you all! So I'm sure for those of you who frequent Youtube and beauty/makeup blogs the person I'm about to mention is definitely a favorite...even better than that a WORLD RENOWNED MAKEUP GURU!

                                    MAKEUPBYRENREN

Here's her beauty channel...

Here's her blog...

and here SHE is....

Gorgeous!!!!! Yes she is!! And is an AMAZING makeup artist!

So here's the deal! I wanted to bring all of my supporters/followers and even her supporters/followers an insider's look with a fun question and answer interview.

I thought long and hard about what questions to ask. I really enjoy her blog and videos and she is super personable! I wanted to reflect that to all the people that I know, that may have heard of her and even introduce her to those of you that haven't. Never before asked questions and EXCLUSIVE answers! You all have heard it here FIRST!

1) How did you get the nickname RenRen?
My real name is Renelyn and I go by Ren for short.  If I was to ever meet you in person it’d either Ren or Renelyn…only one of my friends used to call me Ren Ren and I thought makeup by Ren Ren sounded a little cuter than makeup by Ren, lol.  I’m used to Ren Ren nowJ:)

2) How old were you when you first started wearing makeup? youngest person you've made up?
I started wearing makeup in middle school…I had really bad acne so that’s when I started experimenting with foundation.  Mind you, it was a horrible match, way too pink…whatever I could find at the drugstore.  I’ve learned since then lol.  The youngest person I’ve made up was about 2 years old…crazy right?  It was for a photoshoot charity event and the Dad thought it would be cute.  I applied a tiny bit of blush and sheer gloss on her…she enjoyed it immensely, lol.  Generally though, I try to be very age appropriate when it comes to makeup application.

3) What was the defining moment that catapulted you into seeking a career as a makeup artist? how long before you started seeing success?
I honestly don’t have an exact moment, but it seemed liked after a while, my career really started to pick up.  I was booking more gigs, people were contacting me to write stories and attend events.  It’s great to see hard work pay off.  This started happening about 1.5 years into my career.  We’re all different though.  It depends on the person and the amount you put into it that will determine how far you take your career.

4) What's the craziest makeup look you had to do? craziest prop or makeup product?
I’ve actually done plenty of crazy looks on my YouTube page…many of them for Halloween and costume tutorials.  I’ll pretty much glue anything to the face that will stick and not do damage, lol…the craft store can definitely be your friend when trying to come up with avant guarde looks.  For clients the craziest look I did was a mix between face paint and geisha…I thought it was pretty cool.

Here's what she's referring to....AMAZING ISN'T IT!

5) What do you find most challenging as a makeup artist? what are your coping techniques with that challenge?
There are a few tough things that stand out…first off, dealing with rejection.  You’ll run into some hard to please clients who may not like what you do…the key is to keep your cool, and really listen and try to adapt your technique.  In the end, you also must realize that you may not be a match for every client.  Also, being a makeup artist can be a very cyclical business.  You may have a few jam-packed weeks of gigs and then hit a dry spell.  The key is to keep moving, keep advertising, practicing, never wait for opportunities to come to you.

6) How many people do you think you could makeover if you did face after face for 24 hrs? times that by 365? Amazing right?
Wow, so now sleep huh?  I can make over a person in 5 minutes…if they’re a guy, lol.  Give me all guys with perfect skin and it’s a deal!  Typically though, you should be able to complete a basic makeover in 20 minutes.

7) Who's your favorite top 3 makeup artists and why? What top makeup artist were you surprised knew of you?
I can’t just pick three!  I’ll go with Sam Fine, Billy B, Kevyn Aucoin, AJ Crimson, Scott Barnes, and Pat McGrath.  I follow many of them on twitter and not only are they amazing artists, but they’re great teachers and down to earth people.

8) TOP 5 must have colors that offer the best versatility as a makeup artist or makeup lover? Top 5 steps to a flawless makeup application?
For some reason I interpreted this as eye shadow colors, so I’ll go with that.  Top 5 colors – matte black, matte cream, medium toned brown in a warm tone, neutral dark brown and throw in a fun color!  If I only had those 4 colors, I could do any look and I’ll throw in the wild card color to make it different.
Top 5 steps to a flawless makeup application – 1) You must take care of your skin, have a routine that you stick with that is good for your skin type, age, etc.  Your skin should be clean and moisturized going into makeup application 2)Have the proper tools – good makeup brushes/tools can really make or break your makeup game 3) Apply makeup according to the person…the skin tone, age, personality.  It’s a skill that not every makeup artist masters…learn new tricks, don’t apply the same look to everybody because everyone is different. 4)The points that really define good makeup application for me are clean skin, nicely shaped brows, brows, mascara, and cheek color…from there you can add drama with color…just remember to blend! 5) Practice makes perfect!  That’s the only way to have flawless makeup application…learning from mistakes and becoming better for it.

9) when will you visit NY? how often do you visit? Furthest place you've ever been requested to go to do someone's makeup? did you go?
I’m definitely planning on attending IMATS NY in 2010.  I visit whenever the occasion calls for it…work, vacation, weddings, but I’ll definitely be there for IMATS.  I’ve been asked to travel all over the world for events but honestly, if travel and board is not included it’s not an option.

Here's MakeupbyRenRen with another GURU:Michelle Phan aka Rice Bunny(to her right) at IMATS LA 2010

10) Have you ever messed up a makeup makeover look completely? What did you do to recover? How do you correct a makeup mistake in a crunch time situation?
The good thing about makeup is that it wipes off.  With experience, you learn how to fix little mishaps.  The key is to keep your cool and persevere through it.  I’ve never in my opinion completely messed up a makeover, but I have had clients that weren’t happy with a look.   Just do your best, be quick on your feet and keep it moving!

10 STEPS TO BLOSSOMING BEAUTY

Happy New Year Blossoms,

So it's a new year! I'm sure many of you have attended holiday parties to close out 2010 and looked your best doing so! Here's a step by step guide to achieve ANY makeup look that you desire. Hey its never to late to get into the habit of applying great makeup to prepare you for the parties you'll attend throughout 2011. Rest assured that guide will help you achieve the basics to getting a makeup look you can duplicate on yourself and wear out! this guide isn't ironclad, It's versatile so that if necessary you can tweak a color here or add a little more intensity there to change it to your liking.

Eyeshadow/blush/lip colors that are wonderful at this time of year: burgundy, plum, purple, green, mahogany, chocolate, taupe, mauve, red, gold, silver, grey, creme, white, vanilla, cream and even black.

First make sure you start off with a clean and well moisturized face. Cold dry air can dry a face out and deplete it if it's moisture. Make sure to add eye creme to the under eye area! You want your eyes to appear "awake". Eye cream is a great way to reduce puffiness and used over a period of time can reduce under eye circles. (Check my blog and review on the L'oreal Revitalift Eye Cream) Don't forget lip balm too!

Secondly, prime your face with a face primer so that when your makeup is applied it'll last through all the mingling, talking, dancing, (cheek/air)kissing and jolly good time I'm sure you'll have. A primer aids in filling in any fine lines you may have and preparing your face for the makeup application.

Thirdly, apply concealer to your under eye area. Do not be afraid to add more if necessary. The point IS to conceal so if your not going to put enough to do that then just skip the step altogether. For women of color or women with deep set eyes if you have very dark colored under eye circles then try using a corrector first. Choose a light peach, medium peach or a dark peach colored corrector and blend in smoothly then place a concealor on top of the corrector that is ONE(no more than 2 please or you risk having super light circles under your eyes.) shade lighter than your skin tone. The point is to brighten that area but not too bright. Blend well! Don't forget to apply to the inner corners of the eye and even at the beginning of the top eyelid if necessary(usually the darkest part)

Fourthly, choose your foundation according to your undertone. The foundation will look natural and not contrast between your neck and your chest. Apply lightly and then build upon the color. Applying too much too soon can make the blending process difficult if you have to much product on your face. Depending on if your using powder/mineral foundation it can look ashen/dry, liquid/cream can be to "wet" and can move about the face(causing blotchiness as your makeup wears off). Besides its always easier to build on foundation already placed than to tone it down if you place to much(you'll have to wipe it all off and start again).

The Fifth step, make sure to set your foundation with a powder to ensure that it stays in its place, doesn't move about your face or become blotchy throughout the day. this is especially true to those who have combination/oily skin. The oiliness of your skin will "eat" away at the foundation causing it to fade and blotch. Use a blotting powder, translucent or regular powder foundation to offset your oiliness and give a true matte finish to your foundation and ensuring that it'll last all day with none or minimal touchups(blotting). Set your concealer with a powder a shade lighter than the one used to set your foundation or even a powder the same shade as the concealer you used.

The sixth step, fill in your brows if you like using a brow pencil, brow powder or dark brown/light brown eyeshadow. You can make the brow shape more defined using a concealer to outline the shape and blend the concealer out and into the foundation. Set the brow with eyebrow wax, brown or clear brow gel or mascara.

The seventh step, prime the eyelid with an eyeshadow base. Cream eyeshadows, eyeshadow pencils, gel liners, paint pots and even a eyeshadow the same shade as your skin are great. Pick the color(s) you like. Place the darkest color all over your lid and blend out into the crease. Place the middle color into the crease and blend out just below the brow bone and place the lightest color beneath the arch in your eyebrow as a highlight. Apply liquid/gel/pencil/powder eyeliner, mascara and false lashes if you like.

The seventh step, apply blush and highlight your face if you want. Choosing blush is up to you cream/stick/powder/liquid just make sure to apply from the apples of your cheeks back towards your hairline and up towards your temple. apply lightly and build on the color to the intensity of your choice BLEND WELL!

The eighth step, apply lipliner, lipstick and/or lipgloss. A rule of thumb to follow is if your eye makeup is dramatic or bright keep your cheeks and lips a nude/natural color. If your eye makeup is neutral/natural spice the look up with a little more color on your cheeks or a bold bright/dark lip. Or just do whatever you please. Dramatic eye/bold lip can work too! In makeup there aren't any die hard rules its all about how YOU feel and what YOUR style is. WORK IT!

The ninth step, whip your hair back and forth! LOL!

The tenth step, SMILE and walk even more confidently than before because you KNOW rocked your makeup!

These are the 10 basic steps and I assure you if you follow them you'll be well on your way to flawless makeup application and BLOSSOMING BEAUTY!
