BLOSSOMING QUESTION OF THE DAY: What is the eye crease?

Hey Blossoms,

Today's question is a simple one but quite perplexing to those makeup beginners.

WHAT IS THE EYE CREASE AND WHERE IS IT ON ME?

The eye crease is the area of the eye that is just above the lid and that is folded or creased. See diagram above.

This area of the eye is usually shaded in with a darker eyeshadow than what is used on the lid to provide dimension and definition to the shape of the eye. The eyeshadow used here is usually the darkest color than all the others used on the eye.

The eye crease is different on everyone because everyone has a different eye shape. Some have more defined creases than others and some don't have an eye crease at all in what is known as Monolid. Here's a few pictures to explain

With Monolids, the crease needs to be created and can be done using a dark eyeshadow to contour the eye and create the "crease". Here's a few photos showing how a crease can be created.

Here's a few pictures showing various shaped creases and where the crease brush should be placed during eyeshadow application:

Here's a few photos showing a dark eyeshadow used in the eye crease. Some times the look is soft other times its more dramatic and thats know as a CUT CREASE LOOK. Basically the line of demarcation is left between the lid color and sometimes brow color so you can see exactly where the crease was CUT or started. This look is very popular and can even be found worn by your favorite celebrities. Notice how depending on the intensity, color, placement the different looks it gives to the eye.

Nikki Minaj

Britney Spears

Here's a few looks of my own where I've made my crease more defined and even "cut" the crease but used more a natural feel to it so that its wearable even for an everyday makeup look.

Hope you enjoyed!

BLOSSOMING QUESTION OF THE DAY: What Do Makeup Artists Really Do?

Hey Blossoms,

Bringing you a quick post on a question that gets asked a lot and answered but rarely to its entirety and that is

WHAT DOES A MAKEUP ARTIST DO?

A makeup artist is A person who's profession and area of expertise is applying makeup onto others. A makeup artist does to a persons face  as a painter does to a canvas thus being considered an artist! Makeup IS art.

Makeup artist are usually easily spotted on a set or at a wedding. They usually wear all black, have on impeccable makeup, brush belt filled with all their necessary tools and maybe even makeup on the back of their hand in various colors like a painters board.

Makeup artist are expected to be able to conceal and cover flawlessly any skin type, skin tone, complexion, blemish, scar, bruise, scratch, acne, hyper pigmentation , birthmark, discoloration, even tattoo! No wonder makeup artist are so sought after at major events! They can enhance ones natural beauty to perfection! There are even special effects makeup artist for those who want to transform into someone or something completely different such ad character makeup like Avatar or a monster like Freddie Kruger or a life size toy like Raggedy Ann doll. It's all possible with MAKEUP!

Makeup isn't just for men or women. Everyone can wear it! The only thing that changes is how much and the products. Many of your favorite men that you see in movies, sitcoms, videos and other television shows wear makeup. Even something as simple as powder to combat shine during filming is considered makeup.

A makeup artist is your very best friend! Trained whether through school or self taught to provide a service solely to make you beautiful and  LOVE what you see in the mirror!

Makeup artists are more than a brush and an eyeshadow. Support your local makeup artists! Read blogs, view youtube beauty channels and interact on their facebook pages. Learn from them and they can learn from you.

I had my makeup on for 12 HOURS in these photos!
I like to take pictures that are true to the makeup look at the time. I usually take photos right after I apply the makeup and then a few more before I wash the makeup off to compare and show the "staying power" of the makeup. Unfortunately for this look I was unable to take photos immediately after applying it. Please excuse the shine. However, for the type of work that I do and it to still hold up 12 hours later! I think it still looks GREAT!

Here's the photos.....

I did record a Youtube video for this makeup look but I am unsure if its going to be able to upload so I've included MANY MANY pictures of the look for you all in the event I am unable to post the video.

Until Next Time.

BLOSSOMING FACE OF THE DAY: IMAN & NAOMI CAMPBELL INSPIRED MAKEUP LOOK

Hey Blossoms,

I find inspiration in many things and recently I found my inspiration in the book "Iman: The Beauty of Color" An amazing book by an equally amazing woman. A role model, a top model, a woman of color and class. The cover photo of her and a photo within the book of Naomi Campbell inspired me to recreate the best of BOTH their looks. Iman's classic black smokey eye and Naomi Campbell's classic deep bold dark lip. I also recorded a Youtube tutorial showing the steps I took to achieve the look and it will be uploaded soon.
